CNS Network is a leading clinical research center in Southern California, and we have an immediate opening for a Recreational Therapist.This position plans, develops, coordinates and supervises the treatment program and other therapeutic activity programs which meet the needs and interests of each patient in the facility. The Rehabilitation Therapist participates in budget development for the department and Program and is responsible for its implementation and management.

Job Duties:

  • Organize and supervise the provision of rehabilitation activity groups to Patients as needed
  • Recruit, select, hire, evaluate, supervise and discipline rehabilitation therapists and aides
  • Organize and supervise the provision of activity groups and services of the Treatment Program, including assessment, treatment planning and direct treatment services
  • Monitor the quality of verbal reporting and written documentation of Patient involvement and progress in the rehab activity program on a regular basis
  • Coordinate the Program and other rehab services with the overall treatment schedule with other departments in the facility
  • Coordinate and monitor the ordering, purchasing and maintenance of equipment and supplies of the department.Monitors order and safety of rehab group rooms and offices
  • Coordinates community contacts for outings and services to be brought into the facility
  • Supervises activities of volunteers to the Rehab Department
  • Prepares, reviews and revises department and program policy and procedures at least annually or as often as needed
  • Reviews Program hours monthly and recommends activity treatment action for Patients as necessary
  • Represents rehab by serving on facility committees
  • Supervises van scheduling, maintenance and inservice
  • Responsible for security and accuracy of all departmental petty cash monies.This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive and employees will also perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by the Clinical Director or his/her designee as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational, therapeutic recreation, art, music or drama therapy required
  • Master's degree in occupational, therapeutic recreation, art, music or drama therapy preferred


  • Two (2) years direct service experience treating the mentally ill, preferably adults.
  • One (1) year activity program supervision with employee management experience required. License or Certification
  • Valid California Class "B" Driver's License or ability to be licensed within 3 months of employment, preferred

Specialized Skills

  • Ability to interact and communicate both verbally and in writing with seriously and persistently mentally ill Patients, other staff physicians and the public
  • Demonstrated understanding of psychiatric illness and its treatment
  • Demonstrated leadership, organization and management skills
  • Knowledge of Title 22, Title 9, Patients Rights and Regulations
